ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: HELEN FRANKENTHALER

Canal, Acrylic on canvas, 1963

An abstract expressionist colorfield painter and pioneer of the staining method, Helen Frankenthaler was an extraordinarily capable and prevalent artist throughout the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, painting some of the most emotionally provoking works of not only that era - but all time. Just as a Rothko can conjure tears and deep-seeded feeling, so can a Frankenthaler, and on occasion, to an even greater extent.
