Aidan Meacham is an artist with an innate connection to conscious beings. Meacham, 28, currently resides on a farm - a quaint oasis seperate from the dregs of apathy. The artist teeters between the negative and the positive; as black represents darkness, light symbolizes form and value in his works. The stark contrast in his photography and collage between positive and negative space remains a mystery: which is the background, and which is the foreground, and why?
Artist Comments:
βDarkness is the natural state of the world, and light carves intention through it. Neither dark nor light carry any inherent moral weight in art- it's the intention sculpted from them that gives them the gravity of a push-and-pull relationship. My work intends to provide interplay between this relationship and the similar relationship between the physical, the mental, and the spiritual.β
βThe work operates on a secular humanist interpretation of spirituality as a byproduct of the physical and mental experiences of inhabiting our world. It uses brutalist void and light to produce dreamscapes full of empathy yet unsentimental. Isolation, intimacy, callous cruelty, physical agony, dehumanization, humour and absurdity rendered in dark surrealism and without interest in human exceptionalism.β
