Matt Sauer, 28, is an emerging artist with an interesting mind. Diagnosed with neurodivergence at the age of four, he was always an artist of inclination.
While some may view his works as perverse and uncanny, Sauer explains why his style is crucially relevant in the contemporary era.
Artist Comments:
“I simply paint the current state of the world. I paint the truth. The looming figures I allude to within my works, I suppose, are representative of something terrible about to happen. I like to call them “superorganisms”, which means many organisms making up one. It’s an amalgamation, I believe, looming over humanity, perhaps. It could be an allegory for artificial intelligence. Sometimes I paint them with smiles, to represent manipulation, as they claim they will make the world a better place, but all I’ve seen, as most others will agree, is an increase in the disparity of wealth and the mass takeover of jobs, and the destruction of culture.”
“I have hundreds of novel ideas regarding reality, cosciousness, philosophy, and a littany of other topics. Though, the size of the canvases I’m able to work with would do the concepts a disservice. I currently work in a very small studio. The ideas - in my opinion - are too grand to be constrained to a plane that is so miniscule. Once I have a larger studio space, that is when the real work begins.”
“The large paintings - as I have limited space to store them - tend to get painted over. Some of them have at least 50 compositions under them. They are quite heavy - both literally, and figuratively.
